Shadow Puppets @ MG Gallery

Thanks to everyone who helped make the Avatar Collective's first project a success! Improvisation was the order of the day at an interactive wayang kulit (shadow puppet) and "shadow charades" performance at MG Gallery.

The performance coincided with the opening of Zoe Friedman's gallery exhibit, Sublunary. Reviews of her exhibit are available from the East Bay Express and the Shotgun Review.

For the wayang kulit performance, artist Adam Green helped us construct puppets out of laser-cut masonite. We then presented an appropriation based loosely on the moon rabbit of asian folklore and scenes from the Ramayana. The background for the show was a montage of digital images projected on a stretched fabric scrim.

After the show, the audience was invited to participate in a game of shadow charades, as pictured above. Three puppets, which were made of laser-cut masonite, are pictured below.
